3 Ways Geeks Can Save On Travel

Just because geeks love the latest tech and gadgets, does not mean they don’t also love to save money. In fact, geeks love a good bargain just as much if not more than the next guy, as evidenced by the many geeks found in sites like Slick Deals, Fat Wallet and other similar such deal seeking and coupon loving sites.

Visit any hot deals forum and you’ll find plenty of geeks in search of a good offer. Think about it, we love gadgets, software, books, computers, tablets and the like and we want a good deal.

But we geeks also love going to conferences, WordPress meet ups, expos and meeting other geeks in person. So with this in mind, we though it appropriate to write a guest article targeting the traveling geek.

If this describes you, below we highlight three ways geeks can save on travel now or in the near future.

1. Hot Deal Forums

As we mentioned above, this seems to be a favorite among geek men, but we see plenty of geek ladies on the forums as well. Some of the best on the web include Slick Deals, Fat Wallet and Deal News to name but a few. Everyone has their personal favorites, but if you’re totally new to the travel deal scene the three forums we just noted are a good place to begin your research and foray into good savings. Register as a member as they’re all FREE and then begin browsing around and getting to know the lay of the land. In no time at all, you’ll have spotted a hot deal or three that you can take advantage of or save for later. Your choice.

2. Coupon Blogs

As a geek you might be well acquainted with blogs and how or where to look for a certain niche topic or genre. However if you’re new to blogs, one good bet is a blog directory then head to the frugal living section and search there. Or you can perform a simple search for “coupon blog” on Google and if you wish to niche it further, you can specify a string such as “chicago coupon blog” or “travel coupon blog” and so on. These blogs are a treasure trove of hot coupons and good discounts, so bookmark the ones you like and visit often for BIG savings.

3. Travel Email Newsletters -

Have you ever heard of the email newsletter Daily Candy? This is a hugely popular email newsletter founded in 2000 by a lady who decided to curate fashion and food deals. It became so successful she was able to sell it off years later for millions of dollars to a private firm. The gist is that she basically scoured the web looking for great deals that she then would pass on to email newsletter subscribers. And they loved it. But you can go one better and sign up for travel related deal newsletters such as Travel Zoo, perhaps the best and most well known in the space for hot travel deals and discounts. Once you sign up and depending on the schedule you decide on, your email inbox will host a smorgasbord of good travel coupons, daily deals, and huge savings on everything from Caribbean cruises, beach getaways and hotels to car rental providers.

There you have it. Three excellent ways any geek can save big on travel. Nowadays with the web, our handy dandy smartphones and the various websites that scour hot deals for us, we should never pay retail again. For anything.
